Live video will start @ 1:45 PM on Tuesday the 19th This Video ends at 3:13 PM, Sorry for any inconvenience. After that time is another funeral. Masako Bice (Mako) grew up in Iga-Ueno (Mie) Japan. She was married in Bangkok, Thailand to Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Burton Bice on March 18th, 1963. She came to the United States 50 years ago, speaking only the English that she had learned by watching American movies. She immersed herself in American culture by reading books, joining softball, bowling and golf leagues, and becoming involved in modeling and Girl Scouts. She quickly won people over with her outgoing personality and her sharp sense of humor. She nearly single-handedly ran a kitchen for 15 years at Mako's Japanese Restaurant, where she served up a delicious slice of Japanese culture to the people of Appleton, Wisconsin. She made a life for herself in the US, raising two strong, independent and successful children: Michael (44), who is a Commander in the United States Navy and lives in San Diego, California, and Brian (41) who is a General Manager for Hudson's Bay department store in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. They both took inspiration from her example of courage, resilience and a strong work ethic. She battled cancer not once, not twice, but four times, and won. In the end, it was her heart that gave out, because it was just too big and full of love for her small frame to contain. She showed all of us that when life gets you down, you battle back, and you persevere. She was an amazing and unique woman who was never afraid to speak her mind, but accepted others with an open heart. We love you Mom. You are our hero and our inspiration, and we will miss you terribly. From Burton Bice (husband), Michael Bice (son), Brian Bice (son), Heather Bice (daughter-in-law), Grant, Gavin, Garrett and Grayson Bice (grandchildren), Hideko Fujita (sister), Chieko Matsunaga (sister), Takashi Oka (brother), Hidefumi Oka (brother) and numerous other relatives in the United States and Japan. May you rest In peace.
