Matthew J. Burns, 45, slipped into his eternal sleep on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, GA, with his loving wife, Linda Hayes Burns, at his bedside. He has fought a long hard battle with congestive heart failure, progressive kidney failure, cancerous mass on his left kidney, and subsequent bleeding on his brain. Matthew was born in Jackson, TN on November 23, 1974 and resided in Brownsville for many years before moving to Murfreesboro, TN where he met his wife, Linda, and has been a devoted and loving husband for 11 years as of May 1, 2020. He was a very determined and hardworking young man, who enjoyed driving; working on vehicles; working on the lawn; and watching classic TV shows and movies with his wife. During his productive years, he had worked as a semi-truck driver, construction worker, RV transport driver and security guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, General William Patrick Burns in Italy, TX; and Kathy Jones Burns in Brownsville, TN; maternal grandparents, Solomon Bernard Jones, Dr. and Willie Mae Hart Jones of Brownsville, TN; and Paternal grandparents, William Burns and Mary Cerelli Burns of Pennsylvania; infant daughter, Makala Burns. In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by two stepsons: Geoffrey (Princess) Gahan of Christiana, TX and USAF 2nd Lt. Kenneth Christopher (Rachel) Gahan of Royce City, TX; and stepson, Joseph Christopher. One son, Patrick, who was adopted by his grandparents, Jerrell and Frankie Fincher of Ripley, TN; sister, Chisty Hays; In-laws, Richard (Alice) Turner, Tommy (Joyce) Hayes, Terry (Susan) Hayes, and Bob Hayes; three step-sisters, Cindy Thomas, Galya Mcginnis, and Brenda La Couro of TX. He is also survived by an uncle, Roger Jones of Dallas TX. His final wishes were conducted by Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory of Warner Robins, GA. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date at the chapel of Moore Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester, TN for family and friends.
