Matthew (Matt) Sean McLaughlin passed away peacefully in his home in Durham Ca on August 29th, 2024.

Matthew was born on August 28th, 1985, in Chico Ca to his parents Edward and Debra McLaughlin. He was raised in Durham, Ca where he attended Durham Elementary, Intermediate and High School. Growing up, Matthew was involved in little league, as well as 4-H, where he raised lambs for 8 years for the Silver Dollar Fair and was very involved in community service projects.

Matt enjoyed spending time with his family camping at Bucks Lake, looking for seashells in Fort Bragg and many family birthday parties at La Hacienda. He also enjoyed gardening and always seemed to have a green thumb. After attending college, Matthew returned home to work on the family farm. This allowed him to work side by side with his Dad, Ed and Brother, Lee which is something he enjoyed very much.

Matthew was an active member of AA in Butte County, attending many events and making many wonderful friends. He took great pride in helping others whenever he could. During the Farm City Week Celebration, he would help educate 3rd graders about farming walnuts and almonds and help cook barrel chicken for the attendees of the Farm City Tours.

Matthew is preceded in death by his Grandparents Vollie and Mildred Nash and Charles and Anita McLaughlin. He is survived by his parents, Ed and Debbie McLaughlin, his sister Marissa (Diego) Guerra, his brother Lee (Dana) McLaughlin, his nephews Zachary, Joseph, and Lane and his niece Adalynne.

Matthew made friends wherever he went and was liked by all who got to know him. Though he is gone he will forever be in our hearts.

A rosary will be held Thursday September 19th, 2024, at 7PM with a viewing from 6-7PM at Brusie Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held Friday September 20th, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico Ca with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army Chico ARP or to the Durham Community Foundation in Matts honor.

How did you meet Matthew?

I remember seeing Matthew when he came into my video store with his siblings. I remember thinking what an adorable little red head. He was a little bashful, in which made him even more adorable. Living in the same town I got to see him occasionally. He grew into a handsome kind young man. There are no words to express my feelings for his family's loss. I find some comfort in knowing we will be united with our loved ones again! Sending Prayers for you all and love.
