Maureen Alice Britt
February 10th, 1951 - October 3rd, 2022
Maureen Alice Britt (nee Dubbeld), 71, of Largo, Florida passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2022 in the care of Suncoast Hospice. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, and raised in St. Petersburg, she graduated from St. Pete High School and went on to earn her teaching degree at the University of South Florida. She taught in Pinellas County for more than 30 years, most of those at Orange Grove Elementary School. Maureen, affectionately called Rene by those close to her, married Vietnam Vet Steve Britt in 1972, and they settled in Seminole. She is preceded in death by Steve, her mother Margaret, her father Henry, and her brother Paul. Maureen loved the beach, traveling, shopping, playing games, doing crafts (and almost anything else!) with her grandchildren, and watching Hallmark movies. Her caring heart and adventurous spirit will be cherished by her children Julie Murphy and Sean Britt, her grandchildren Alison, Kaitlyn, and Jimmy Murphy, her siblings Peter Dubbeld and Karen Newell, and many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and fellow teachers. She will be deeply missed and forever loved in our hearts. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Jude Cathedral St. Petersburg, in Our Lady Chapel, at 1:00pm on Tuesday October 11, 2022. The cathedral advises that all attending park in the 5th Avenue parking lot on the south side of the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Maureen’s Grandchildren’s College Fund, or Suncoast Hospice.
