Obituary Max Lee Walt passed away on Thursday, April 6th 2017 at Penrose St Francis Main Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. Max was born in Lucerne, Missouri, on Dec 28, 1934 to Lester and Lena Walt, Max, his parents and nine brothers and sisters moved to Colorado Springs when he was 18 months old. They settled in a house near Williamette and 26th Street,where the family lived until his parents passed away when they were in their late 80s. Max went to Whittier Elementary school, West Junior High School, then graduating from Colorado Springs Main High school, now known as Palmer High School, in 1953. Max met his future bride at the Y-Knot Drive Inn in 1953. They were married on April 7th 1956. Max worked at Denver Equipment Co., where he apprenticed in pattern making. He worked as a pattern maker for most of his working life. He also worked in home construction for a number of years. He retired from Schlage Lock in the mid 90s. Through his life he enjoyed work working as a hobby. He also devoted many years to the Nob Hill Lions Club, where he served in many club positions and received numerous awards for his service. Max was also the District Governor for the 6 SE District of Lions International. He also served in several positions on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Lions Camp. Max was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in late 2009. He underwent three years of chemotherapy. He was basically in remission for the last few yeas. In late March of 2017 he went into the Penrose-St Francis Main hospital with some breathing issues. Max was transferred to the CCU on April 1st. It was found that the mesothelioma had returned with a vengeance. On Thursday the 6th April he passed away at 12:24 pm surrounded by friends and family. Max is survived by his wife, Wanda, Son and his wife., Jim and Michele, sister,Oasel, and her husband Guy Shanklin and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son Ken, parents. Lester and Lena, brothers, Clell, Carroll, Basil, James, sisters, Mary, Masel, Opal, and Vera.
