May A. Stewart

May A. Stewart, life-long native of Ione, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the age of 95. May was born in Ione on December 19, 1923 to John and Ruby Porter. She was the third of four siblings, John Porter Jr., Lois Gilbert and David Porter, all of whom preceded her in death. During World War II, May was a Welder First Class at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo. Following the war, she met and married her husband, Bruce R. Stewart, and became a widow within the first year of marriage. As the loving mother of two children, Jackie (Stewart) Martinez and Bruce W. “Buzzy” Stewart, she survived the loss of her son Buzzy in a car accident in 1969. Despite these early tragedies, May led a full and happy life. Her favorite pastimes were bowling, reading and helping to raise her three granddaughters. May is a member of the Ione Band of Miwok Indians, and she will be remembered for her strong spirit and wonderful sense of humor. May is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Tom) Martinez, of Ione; granddaughters, Andrea (Emil) Delgado-Olson, Kristen Martinez, and Danielle Martinez; great-grandsons, A.J. Doninelli and Diego Delgado-Olson; and great-granddaughter, Ruby Delgado-Olson. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson, CA at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 22, 2019. Donations may be made to Amador STARS, P.O.
