Beers and Story - Belchertown
Mederic "Med" E. Lafleur
May 25th, 1932 - March 9th, 2016
"South Hadley, Mederic "Med" E. Lafleur Jr., 83, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. He was born in Danielson, Ct on May 25, 1932 and was the son of Mederic and Mary Lafleur. He grew up in Holyoke and was a graduate of Holyoke Trade High School. In 1967 he and his bride of the last 51 years, Mary (West) Lafleur, moved to South Hadley to raise their family. Med was a talented sheet metal craftsman and worked for Kleeberg Sheet Metal for over forty years as well as Morris Roofing before retiring. He was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 63. He courageously served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and was also a Shriner and 33rd Degree Mason. Med truly enjoyed time with his family and eating breakfast at The Egg and I with his friends known as The Knights of the Round Table. Med always arrived wherever he was going with his sarcastic humor attitude, never missing an opportunity to include a joke or comment when the opportunity presented itself. He was a very hard working man who always had another project waiting for him to complete. After retiring, he attended classes to become a custom golf club fitter and started his own business making custom clubs. His charismatic, fun loving, stubborn and witty personality will be greatly missed by all. Med is survived by his wife Mary along with their three children, John and his wife Cheryl of Pittsfield, Michelle Beaudreau with whom he lived, and Michael and his wife Rebecca of South Hadley, along with his six precious grandchildren, Seth, Nicholas, Jeff and his wife Trisha, Jennifer and her husband Michael, Jacques and Mathieu and six great grandchildren, Amber, Josh, Andrew, Mackenzi, Jack and Michael. His brother in law, William "Buck" West and his wife Gail of Ware also survive him. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sisters, Celina Crider and Elaine Kennedy. He also leaves behind his faithful furry companion, Mr. Murray. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, March 15th at 8:30 a.m. at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. Burial will follow in The Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours are Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
