Melinda Louise Burke 77, of Colonial Heights, loving mother and mamaw went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born in Nickelsville, VA to the late Olen and Madge Salyer. Melinda married Eddie Burke and together they raised two beautiful children Brent and Alison. After Eddie’s passing she worked tirelessly as a single mom. She was an award winning flower and vegetable gardener whose garden was admired by many. Melinda was an avid animal lover, especially her cats and dogs. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by, sister, Christine Salyer Horne. Survivors include her daughter, Alison Burke; son, Brent Burke and Elizabeth; granddaughter, Gracie Belle Burke; sister, Barbara Testerman and husband Jim; brothers, Paul Salyer and wife Gwen and Harold Salyer; brother-in-law, Larry Horne and wife Polly; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and extended family. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Friday October 12, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow with Gil Salyer officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 12pm on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Grassy Creek Cemetery in Castlewood, VA with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11am to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Janet and Jerome Necessary for their loving care.
