Melissa Michaelis, also known as Wonder Woman to those who followed her journey, passed away in the early morning hours of June 18, 2020. She died from complications with cancer. She was born on November 21, 1976 to Dawn (Michaelis) Heinen and William Michaelis. She lived with both parents until the divorce in 1989. Melissa’s life was cut short, but she touched the hearts of many while she was here with us. She accomplished so much professionally, without a degree but still strived to be better. She was only six months from completing her bachelor’s degree. Her strength and fighting spirit was beyond anything that could only be imagined. Her son, Jaylen Walcott, was born October 12, 2005. Melissa was determined to raise her son with compassion and respect but most of all, love. She loved her son and was exceedingly proud of the man he is becoming. He truly is a direct reflection of her love and values of family. Melissa is survived by her mother (Dawn Heinen,) father (William Michaelis,) stepfather (Shawn Heinen,) stepmother (Carol Michaelis,) two sisters (Alexandra and Laura,) two brothers (William Michaelis) and (Jacob Heinen,) and her beloved son (Jaylen Walcott). Melissa is preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Amanda and Wayne Crockett and Kathryn and William Michaelis. Some of Melissa’s favorite things were her Jeep and living the Jeep life, her job, her coworkers, and her friends (some of which she had been close to since high school). She loved rollerblading, working out, soccer, shoes and more shoes, and fashion. She had a wardrobe big enough for three women. Her animal impersonations would make you think you had a live rooster loose in the house or that you were a part of a new Star Wars movie. Melissa loved her job, her team at Raytheon and Raytheon loved her. She often said with tears of happiness how happy she was at Raytheon and how good they had been to her. She loved Wonder Woman and at times found strength channeling her character. She truly was a wonder woman. Melissa’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 11, 2020. It will begin at noon with a short service from 1-2 PM. All friends and family are welcome; we only ask for those coming to be considerate of the service time and not arrive between 1-2. If you would like to be there for the service, please arrive at least 15 minutes prior. We look forward to celebrating such a special soul with you all. Memorial Service will be held at her Mother’s Home, July 11, 12-5 pm Dawn Heinen 7303 Wood Stream Dr Indianapolis, IN 46254
