Melissa Ann Smith

Melissa Ann Smith Melissa Ann Smith, 35, a life long resident of Mason County, died of cancer related causes on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at her home. Melissa was born September 28, 1969 in Olympia to Michael and Toni (Townsend) Determan. She graduated from Shelton High School in 1988. She attended St. Martin's College for one year and South Sound Community College for one year, earning an Associate of Arts degree. On November 11, 1989 in Olympia, she married Mick Smith, who survives. Melissa and Mick enjoyed playing Jack and Jill baseball and playing on their church's baseball team where Melissa was considered fearless. Melissa worked as a caregiver and staff coordinator for Assured Home Health & Hospice for 10 years. She had an avid interest in horses. She was involved in horse breeding and sales. She loved going on trail rides and also gave riding lessons to many people in the community. She enjoyed being a member of the Equestriennes of Mason County She loved the Lord and was an active member of the Calvary Fellowship in Shelton. She loved going to church and received much strength from her church family. Her prayer was to serve the Lord. She was also involved in the Equestriennes of Mason County. Survivors in addition to her husband, Mick, include two sons, Morgan and Michael (14) both of the family home; two sisters, Paula (Sean) Porsche of Shelton, Meg (Treavor) Malmanger of Auburn; her parents Mick and Toni Determan of Shelton; also her grandparents, Floyd and Doris Townsend of Shelton.
