Biography LONGMONT, Colo. — Melva Jean B. Larsen, 89, of Longmont, Colo., died Sunday, July 20, 2014, in Longmont, Colo. We mourn the loss of a beautiful and loving person, Melva Jean B. Larsen. Services will be , at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Curran Funeral Chapel. Pastor Brian Krause will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Kornborg, with a 1 p.m. committal service. Melva Jean was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Marquette to Arthur and Bernyce (Liebhart) Peterson. Melva Jean was raised in Marquette and Central City, graduating from Central City High School in 1942. She married the love of her life, Edwin E. “Eddie” Larsen, on Oct. 17, 1943, in Central City. They had 49 years of life together until his death in 1993. In her early years of marriage, she worked in the payroll department of the Ordnance Plant in Grand Island. She was then able to be a homemaker and take care of her family. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church while in Central City, singing in the church choir as well. She was a Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Central City Hospital Auxiliary. She and Eddie moved to Grand Island in 1987 and in her later years, Melva Jean worked at her son-in-law’s business, Olson Auction Service. Melva Jean was an inspiration to many in her lifetime. She was committed to nurturing her children, her grandchildren and her husband. She was a marvelous seamstress and an excellent cook. Her pies and famous potato salad were her specialties. We will remember her endearing qualities of honesty, resiliency and integrity. Her generosity was limitless. Survivors of the immediate family include her four daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Aziz Khasawneh of Superior, Colo., Linda and Darrel Olson and Denice and Pete Kruse, all of Grand Island, and JoAnne and Daryl Wilson of Mead, Colo.; and a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Cheryl Larsen of Longmont, Colo. Others left to cherish her memory include her eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Larsen; granddaughters, Karmen Puente and Denean Olson; sisters, LaVerda Whited and Charlene Peterson; and brothers, Leon Peterson and Bill Peterson.
