Mel went home to be with the Lord July 1, 2011 at the age of 89. He was born in Green Valley Illinois, graduate of Bradley University and served in the Navy from 1942-1971, working his way up the ranks to Lieutenant Commander. He was a member of the Valley Ridge Retired Officers Assoc. and a very active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Paradise for over 40 years, where he proudly proclaimed his love for the Lord. Melvin was preceeded in death by his 1st wife "Brownie" of 57 years and a beloved granddaughter, Kimberly. He leaves behind his wife Beverly of 7 years; daughter, Linda Barnett; son, Timothy; step son, Kent Kenoyer; sister, Carol Symonds; brother, "Buster" as well as grandchildren Mike Pecen and Christina Peren. Donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, Our Saviors Lutheran Church or the Hospice House of Paradise. Memorial services will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Paradise on July 16, 2011 at 4:00pm.
