Menelaos "Manny" Anagnos
January 25th, 1924 - November 25th, 2011
ANAGNOS, MENELAOS (MANNY),87 of Gulfport, FL passed away Friday, Nov. 25. All services will be held in New Jersey. Manny was born on the island of Karpathos, Greece in 1924. He came to New York in 1940, joined the U.S. Army, served in the European theater in World War II and fought at Anzio where he was awarded several medals including the bronze star. After the war, he started his own fur manufacturing firm in New York City and was a successful furrier for many years. Manny retired to Florida in 1990 with his current and devoted wife Elaine (Davis) Anagnos. He was predeceased by his first wife, Theodora Makris, and is survived by wife Elaine; son Steven Anagnos; grandchildren Mitchell, Theodore and Chloe; sister Fotini Papoutsaki and several nieces and nephews as well as extended family members throughout the U. S. and Greece. Manny was a member of the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club, loved to golf and fish and was an avid observer and participant of the stock market. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Visitation will be 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2011, at M. J. Murphy Funeral Home 616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852.
