Merel Edward McDougall
March 14th, 1923 - February 3rd, 2019
Merle Edward McDougall was born on March 14, 1923, in Waterloo, Iowa. He passed away on February 3, 2019, at the age of 95. Merle met the love of his life, Margaret Keen, while stationed for Navy training in Farragut, Idaho, in 1943. They were married on October 14, 1944, and the adventure began. After the war they lived in South Bend, Indiana, while Merle got his Engineering Degree from Norte Dame and the first three kids arrived. Then it was off to Texas to teach and number four arrived. Next a move to L.A., to work for Hughes Aircraft, and then start his own Engineering Rep firm, with kids number five, six, seven and eight arriving. Busy years of raising kids, camping, water skiing, and flying his Cessna airplane followed. Retirement brought a move to Morro Bay and motorhome travel all over North America, bird watching and many overseas adventures. Merle is survived by seven children, Merle (Michele) McDougall; Maureen (Evan) Coombs; Steve (Karen) McDougall; Judi (John) Mallen; Sue McDougall; Chuck (Candie) McDougall; Mary (Mac) McFiren; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Marge); son, James; his parents; and brother, Floyd. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Isidore Church will be at 10 am, Friday, February 8, 2019, with Father Avram Brown officiating. A reception will follow at Sutter Youth Building, 7740 Buttehouse Road, Sutter. Private Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Sutter Cemetery.
