Merle Dean Phillipe was born on August 2, 1928 in Athens, TX and passed away on May 20, 2009, at the age of 80 in Chico, CA. Merle was born to Roy and Ollean (Manning) Kendrick and was raised in Texas with three brothers and two sisters until the age of 16 when she moved with her family to San Luis Obispo, CA. Merle moved to Yreka in 1951 and on June 28, 1953, married her husband, Tim. Merle worked for Bank of America from 1951 until her retirement in 1983. She was very active in various organizations in Yreka, particularly the Soroptomist Club, Yreka Chamber of Commerce and American Red Cross. In August, 2000, Tim and Merle moved to Chico to be closer to their daughter and her family. Merle is survived by daughter, Lisa, son-in-law, Tim; granddaughter, Kelsey; great-grandson, Ray; nieces, nephews and cousins, and many life long friends from Yreka and new friends in Chico. She is also survived by her faithful dog, Lacey. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka at a later date. Donations to the Enloe Century Project, in care of the Enloe Foundation, 249 W. 6th Ave, Chico, CA 95926, American Red Cross or to a favorite charity in memory of Merle would be appreciated.
