Michael Burgwin passed away March 23, 2016 in Hoodsport, WA. He was born August 8, 1929 to Michael Burgwin and Esther Ruth Dantima in Tonasket, WA. He graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1948, and earned an associate degree in Law Enforcement in 1960. He was married to Marjorie Prevost, and later to Lorna May White on March 15, 1978 in Portland, OR. Lorna and Mike honeymooned in Hawaii and visited the islands 16 times. Professionally, Michael worked for the city of Martinez, CA, Police Department (1950-1961), where he rose through the ranks to Lieutenant. He was Animal Control Director in Portland, Seattle and Honolulu (1972-1995); owner of Indianola Country Store in Indianola, WA (1981-1991); and president/board member of Lake Cushman Maintenance Company (2010-2014). Mike was fair, open-minded, accessible, fun-loving, and enthusiastic. He was a dreamer, history buff, great story-teller and entrepreneur. He spent a lifetime working and volunteering for organizations that he was passionate about and made a difference. He enjoyed remodeling and construction throughout his life, and was famous for his Fuji applesauce and pecan pie muffins. He is survived by his wife, Lorna of Hoodsport; sons, Michael Burgwin, David Burgwin, Scott Burgwin, Christopher Burgwin and Kenneth White; daughter, Kimberly Hansen; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Patrick Burgwin (his twin), and Thomas Burgwin. Memorial donations may be made to the Mike and Lorna Burgwin Medical Fund at www.gofundme.com.
