LEXINGTON – Michael “Mike” Allen Byrd, 57, passed away Monday, September 9, at Forsyth Medical Center, with his beloved wife, Pamela “Pam” Ward Byrd, by his side. He was born in Winston-Salem on March 15, 1956, to the late Annette Lovett and Richard Byrd Sr., and spent his professional career working at Wachovia and Duke Energy. Mike was a fun-loving, caring human being, always cheerful and optimistic. He loved his family, good food, good wine, golf, music, and his many friends and special golfing buddies. P. G. Wodehouse once said, “To find a man's true character, play golf with him.” Anyone who ever played golf with Mike Byrd, can attest to his fine character, good sportsmanship, and generosity. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Lovett, and stepmother, Shirley Byrd. He is survived by his wife, Pam Ward Byrd, of the home; his father, Richard Byrd Sr. of Winston-Salem; sister, Susie Montgomery of Lake Helen, FL; brother Richard Byrd Jr. (Karen) of Winston-Salem; brother-in-law, Keith Ward (Renee) of Kernersville; nephews, Eddie Poitras, Jason Ward and John Ward; nieces, Amanda Everhart,Amber Montgomery, and Kellie Ward; and members of his extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forsyth Humane Society, NC Wildlife Federation, 2155 McClintock Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28205, or to the charity of your choice. Family and friends are asked to gather for a fellowship honoring Mike’s life from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Reflections Room, in Kernersville.
