Michael Greenway was born on November 15, 1949, in Salisbury, N.C. and after a long illness, he passed peacefully at home on July 30, 2024, with his life partner at his side.
At the age of 74, he is survived by his partner, Teresa “Robin” Livingston, two daughters Melanie Greenway Brown and Lisa Greenway, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two brothers Philip Greenway and Victor Greenway.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Ray & Laverne Greenway, his brother Wayne Greenway, and his ex-wife Nancy Greenway. He grew up in Salisbury, N.C. and on several U.S. Army military bases before settling and residing the rest of his life in Columbia, S.C.
Michael served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist E-4 and received an Honorable Discharge February 26, 1970. While serving in the U.S. Army, Michael received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Marksman M-14 Medal. After his discharge, he worked at Custom Cabinets & Countertops and completed his professional work as a land surveyor for B.P Barber & Associates and Steadman & Associates.
Michael enjoyed his life with his children, his family members, and his many friends at Pam’s Porch. He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish the ponds around Columbia. He served as a volunteer at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, S.C., helping veterans while they were receiving medical care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center – Fisher House 6439 Garners Ferry Rd., Bldg. 32 Columbia, SC 29209,
which provides lodging and transportation to military and veteran families at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatments. The Fisher House Foundation provides a home away from home to ensure that families stay together and support their loved ones without financial burden.
A Memorial Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery 4170 Percival Rd., Columbia, S.C. 29229.
