Michael P. Hartnett, aged 87, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2024, in Hilton Head Island, SC. Born on November 8,1936, Mike lived a life rich in love, laughter, and accomplishment.

Mike’s family was the center of his world. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren who will always remember his wisdom, love, and the countless memories they shared. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan, of 62 years, and three of his four children; Katy Hartnett, Michael (Jennifer) Hartnett and Emmett (Tanya) Hartnett. He is also survived by nine adored grandchildren: Aidan (Kelsey), Eryn, Margaret and Maura Hartnett; Hannah, Jack and Michael Reinartz; and Shanley and Joseph Hartnett.

The Hartnett family takes comfort knowing that Mike’s soul is now reunited with that of his daughter Nora (John) Reinartz, as well as his parents, siblings and many friends.

Mike was a graduate of Loyola Academy High School in Chicago. He received a BS in Business and Petroleum Distribution from Western Michigan University and then graduated from the Navy Officer Candidate School in 1962. The day after graduation from OCS, Mike married Joan Mongoven who he referred to as the love of his life.

Mike proudly fulfilled a 4-year commission in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant, serving mostly in California.

Not long after his military service, the family settled in Brookfield, Wisconsin and Mike developed into a remarkable business entrepreneur. His vision and determination led to the creation and success of several ventures, reflecting his innovative spirit and relentless drive. His leadership and mentorship left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working with him.

If family was his first love, golf became his second.  Settling in the Hilton Head Island community of Moss Creek in retirement, the fairways and greens quickly became his second home. He cherished the camaraderie, the friendships he forged and the competition. His golf buddies miss his presence on the course and the money he lost to them!

Mike was a friend to many, known for his warmth, kindness, and generosity. He had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel valued and heard. His friendships, spanning decades, were a testament to his genuine and caring nature. Whether it was a word of advice, a shared laugh, or a helping hand, Mike was always there for those he loved.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at St Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, HHI on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:00 am.  Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember a man who touched so many lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation https://scleroderma.org/about-us/

Rest in peace, Mike. Your journey on this earth may have ended, but your legacy and love will forever endure.
