Michael George Madden
June 8th, 1959 - June 24th, 2020
Michael George Madden passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in Florida, after an extended battle with sarcoidosis. He was 61. Michael was born on June 8, 1959, in Norwood, Massachusetts, to Helen Marilyn (Denson) and George Patrick Madden. He attended Wentworth University in Boston, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. At the turn of the millennium, he obtained a Master of Science in Technology Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. And subsequently, he attended the University of Miami where he obtained a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering. After graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1981, Michael continued working for Stone and Webster [in Boston], where he had been working during a Coop program as part of his Bachelor’s studies. Michaels’ interest in engineering brought him to Pennsylvania, where he started working on designs for a nuclear power plant. Shortly thereafter, he headed to Florida and started working for Lockheed Martin, which later formed United Space Alliance. Beginning as a lead systems engineer at Lockheed, Michael troubleshot and repaired space shuttles. During his 27 years working with the shuttle program, he eventually became the Senior Project Leader for the Space Shuttle Program. Michael’s interests included woodworking, stock trading, fishing, and seafood. He devoted much of his time and energy to projects at the family cottages in Marshfield, and taking various woodworking classes on the east coast. For this man who loved spreadsheets and stock tickers, there was no such thing as too many computer monitors. Michael is survived by his three children, Kristen, Joseph, and Isaac Madden; his brother, James Madden; his sister, Marilyn Madden Walsh; his ex-wife, Sommai Damrong, and her daughters, Jeannie and Julie Coffey. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held when it is safe to do so for family and friends. Please send memorial donations to Girls Who Code.
