Michael Kent McLaughlin passed away on the morning of September 22, 2023, from a sudden heart attack, at the age of 63. Mike was born September 1, 1960, in Gassaway, West Virginia, to parents Larry and Susan McLaughlin. He spent his entire childhood in Gassaway where he enjoyed playing little league baseball, hunting, fishing, riding dirt bikes and excelling in football, basketball and baseball at Braxton County High School, graduating in 1979. He moved to Satellite Beach in 1981, working as a heavy equipment operator in roadway construction, eventually going to work for Brevard County where he worked for the remaining 33 years of his life, serving as a highly respected professional in monitoring the quality of roadway construction and maintenance on County maintained rights-of-way. Mike enjoyed just about anything related to sports. He was an avid fan of the West Virginia Mountaineer football team and a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys. When the Little League World Series was being televised, he never missed an opportunity to tune in. His love of sports was not confined to simply watching an event. He also loved to play golf with family members and friends, as well as participating in many of the sponsored tournaments around Brevard County. Mike is survived by his wife, Sue Wesley McLaughlin, of Melbourne, Florida; his daughter, Criston McLaughlin and her finance, Kevin Campbell, both of Palm Bay, Florida; his step-daughter, Tina Wesley, of Melbourne , Florida; his step-son, Bobby Wesley, of Melbourne, Florida; his mother, Susie Bullock and step-father, Michiel Bullock, both of Palm Bay, Florida; his father, Larry McLaughlin, and step-mother, Margaret McLaughlin, both of Shelbyville, Tennessee; his older sister, Elizabeth Eason and her husband Ronald Eason, both of Titusville, Florida; his younger sister, Marian Kuhn and her husband Scott Kuhn, both of Palm Bay, Florida. He is also a loving grandfather of seven grandchildren and an uncle to three nieces and three nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his step-son, Michael Wesley. Mike will be eternally missed by everyone who knew him. He was a gentle, quiet man who loved his family, his friends, and his co-workers. Rest in Peace and know that you will be forever loved by those you leave behind. A celebration of Mikes’ life will be held on October 21, 2023 at Beckman-Williamson Funeral & Crematory, 5400 Village Drive, Viera, Florida at 10:00 AM.
