Michael Albert Reeves “Mickey” (as known in the family) peacefully passed away with lung and heart complications on the evening of Friday, June 11th, nine days before his 68th birthday. Mick was born in Longview, Washington and grew up in Sunnyside in the Yakima Valley. Mick contracted a serious case of polio during the Sunnyside epidemic of 1955, just 3 months before the Salk vaccine became available. He survived, but his legs were paralyzed. Mick never considered himself handicapped, refused to use a wheelchair, making his way on crutches. Mick was one of the original Computer Nerds. He graduated from Centralia College in Computer Programming and continued on to a very successful career with the Washington State Department of Information Services. He retired in 2007 after 30 years of service. Mick was always considerate, positive and funny and never once felt deprived because of his disability. His interests were varied. He was always first on the block with the newest technology, loved his Corvettes and drove them on the back roads extensively. He was a devoted NASCAR fan and attended NASCAR races in Arizona. Mick was also an avid boater in his younger years, cruising Puget Sound waters with his friends.Mick is survived by his mother Martha Mae Reeves; brothers Jim (Judi) Reeves and Bob Reeves; sister Julie Reeves; nephews, Jason Reeves and Clay (Lori) Reeves; and his many friends and extended family. Jason wrote on his Facebook page, "RIP Uncle Mickey you have new legs now you can run and jump freely I will miss you very much as everyone else in the family.” Condolences may be left online for the family by clicking on "View Guestbook" below.
