Michael William Welsch

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Michael William Welsch, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend on February 12, 2021, with his family by his side. He was 50 years old. Michael was born in Davenport, Iowa, and moved to South Carolina as an infant. He was the son of Doris Stecher Welsch and the late Dr. Willian Grant Welsch and attended Lexington District Two schools. After graduating from Brookland-Cayce High School, Michael moved to Marietta, Georgia where he met the love of his life, Melissa Jasmine Wilkinson. They married in 2001, eventually moving back to the City of Cayce to reside closer to his family. He was employed by Capitol Bridge-The AdQIC and enjoyed his time with the company and his co-workers. Michael exhibited a rare combination of someone who loved life and had a firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living a life surrounded by those he loved and bringing joy to others. He was the true definition of a family man and was also a friend to many. Michael had an unshakable faith and trust in God, living his life without fear, believing a higher power worked/lived through him. This was shown with the gift he had for uplifting others. He was adept at many tasks, and was always willing to help anyone in need. He embraced having a good time and loved the Clemson Tigers. Michael was the beloved father of Joshua Tyler Smith, Caitlyn Jourdan Welsch, Christina Jasmine Brown, and Chloe Jade Welsch, and cherished his role as Papa to Cali, Ava, Tank, Karter, and Kartier. He devoted valuable time to his nieces and nephews and played a pivotal role in the lives of countless others. Michael was a loving brother to Kim Castillo (Hector) of Muscatine, IA, Anthony Welsch of Cayce, Michelle Kubiak (Brian) of Buford, GA, and sister-in-law, Diane Welsch of Charleston, SC. He had many aunts, uncles, and cousins who meant the world to him, as well as his treasured family friend, Florence Johnson. He was predeceased by his father, brother Jeffrey Welsch, and grandparents, Raymond and Helen Stecher and Clarence and Felma Welsch. He will be dearly missed, and his memory will forever live in our hearts. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Jesus Christ Tabernacle, 635 North Brown Street, West Columbia, SC on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 2:00pm. The family thanks the staff at Lexington Medical Center for their care and compassion during Michael’s final days. They were exceptionally comforting to him, as well as to the family, during this difficult time.
