Michael Dennis Whalen
September 6th, 1937 - August 2nd, 2021
Michael Dennis Whalen, age 83, passed this life at Discovery Village Senior Living community in Melbourne, FL on Monday August 2, 2021. Mike was born on September 6, 1937 in Marinette, WI to the late Francis A. and Katherine K. Whalen. His brother, Jack Whalen preceded him in death. His former wife, Sheila Whalen has also preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Ellie) Whalen of Rockville, MD, Brian Whalen of Gainesville, GA and his daughter Teri (Bob) Angcos of Steamboat Springs, CO. He loved his five grandsons, Sean, Joe, Mitchell, Max & Fritz and two granddaughters, Ellie & Cyrena. Mr. Whalen attended Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, WI and Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He treasured his friendships from both high school and college into his final days. After completing ROTC in college, he served his country as an officer with the United States Navy. His unwavering respect & allegiance to his fellow military colleagues was vocalized to all who met or spoke with him. He enjoyed successful careers with Bell & Howell Camera, Steelcase Office Furniture & later E&I Cooperative Services all of which allowed him the opportunity to travel & live in San Jose, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland and Cherry Hill, NJ. The family is forever grateful for all of the wonderful care & compassion provided by the St. Francis Reflections Hospice Team. We appreciated the phone calls over the last several months so that we could speak with our Dad and see that he was still enjoying the art of conversation & “pushing the envelope”. His favorite topics were growing up in Mineral Point, WI, anything having to do with the US Navy, Civil War History and those fun, loving Philadelphia sports teams, the Phillies & Eagles. A memorial service & burial at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL (outside of Titusville) will take place at a later date. The family asks in lieu of flowers gifts can be made to St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care 1250-B Grumman Pl, Titusville, FL 32780 Please feel free to share a message, memory or condolences online via the Beckman Williamson Funeral Home website, www.beckmanwilliamson.com.
