Mick Peters
November 2nd, 1968 - September 14th, 2024
Mick (Michael Ray Peters Jr), 55, of Greeley, CO, passed away on Saturday, September 14th, after a very short battle with cancer. Mick was born on November 2nd, 1968, to Michael and Linda (Van Hooser) Peters in Hugo, CO. After graduating from Greeley Central High School in 1987, he pursued his love of food and entertainment by working in the restaurant and catering industry. He met Tanya Baloun while working as the catering manager at Toddy's in 1987.
Mick and Tanya were married on March 24th, 1990, and went on to have a daughter, Michaela, in 1991.Early in his career, Mick worked in hospitality, which led to an opportunity as a business owner in Fort Morgan, CO. There, he met several friends who quickly became family. With a deep love for his community, Mick volunteered as a firefighter for the Fort Morgan Fire Department for 10 years.
After being subpoenaed to an arson investigation, he decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. POST-certified, he found his law enforcement home with the Town of Milliken, CO, where he served as an officer, sergeant, and school resource officer.
Mick discovered his true passion was working with children, often engaging with them and making police officers less intimidating in their eyes. He would come home with touching stories, and often with remnants of the children’s lunches splattered on his uniform. Mick’s greatest passions in life were his family and friends, traveling to the ocean, and a good—sometimes twisted—practical joke.
Mick was preceded in death by his father, Mike Peters. He is survived by his wife, Tanya Peters; his daughter, Michaela (Cody) Fisher; his granddaughters, Ellie and Olivia Fisher; his mother, Linda Peters; his sister, Vanessa Peters (Tom Baker); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends he considered family. Services will be held at 829 10th Avenue (Fiesta Mansion/ the old Masonic Temple) in downtown Greeley on Tuesday, September 24th at 2pm. Dress up, dress down, or wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt.
