Memorial

Mike Campbell On May 11th, in his home in Tualatin ,OR, our wonderful husband, father and Papa, Mike Campbell, passed peacefully from this world and into the next, with his best friend and beloved wife of 39 years, Michele Campbell, by his side. Mike was born in Ashland, OR, on November 9, 1953, to John and Judy Campbell, both of whom were there to greet him as he left this world. Early on in his life and into high school at Klamath Union High School, Mike showed great promise of one day being considered for the honor of "Class Clown". It was his fantastic sense of humor and love of others that won over the hearts of all he came in contact with; most notably, fellow high schooler and the eventual love of his life, Michele Bingham. Mike and Michele were married in 1975 and eventually had 4 adoring children: Paul Campbell, Andrea Campbell Jorgensen, Heather Campbell Henderson and Erik Campbell. Mike loved being called “Dad” but the title he loved most was “Papa” to his 15 beautiful grandchildren whom he cherished and who love him dearly. Papa lived for and found great joy in his family and never wanted anything more than to see each of us happy. Second only to his grandchildren were his beloved Oregon Ducks. As a life-long fan and fierce supporter, he could be seen (and heard), rain or shine, cheering them on. And if he wasn't in Autzen Stadium on a Saturday, he was fulfilling his other passion of shamelessly dominating MUCH younger competitors on the racquetball court - an accomplishment of which he became uncharacteristically proud and which humbled many others. Mike was an unrelenting competitor in all aspects of his life, but where he fought his hardest fight was against the ALS that wracked his once-strong body. The disease that eventually took his life did not take him easily and he gave it all he had until his last breath. He fought with determination, but also with meekness and humility. He was our hero. His wife, children and grandchildren, together with his siblings, Dave Campbell, Steve Campbell and Jeannie Campbell Cuthbertson and many other family and friends, will celebrate this man we all loved so dearly. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (525 N. 66th St, Springfield, OR) at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2015. All who wish to attend are invited. Arrangements entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home. Please access the obituary and you are invited to sign the guestbook at musgroves.com
