Milton Frank Thompson passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 92, in Tega Cay, SC. Born in Pittsburgh PA on June 2, 1932, Milt lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to others, and a successful career.

Milt grew up in the Great Depression with his two brothers and parents. He went on to serve in the Air Force with honor and dedication. He embarked on a diverse career path. He began in sales, eventually becoming a regional manager for Royal Typewriter in Charlotte, and later becoming a partner at BCE Office Equipment. His entrepreneurial spirit and love of boating led him to become owner and creator of Mariner Yacht Club. He also worked in sales at Citizen’s Fidelity Bank (now PNC) and was the business owner with his wife Sue, of the shop Christmas in Blowing Rock.

Milt was a lifelong learner who graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, while playing tuba in their marching band. He was also a talented accordion player and was featured several times on Pittsburgh radio with his bands.

A dedicated and founding member of South Park Christian Church in Charlotte, Milt’s faith was an important part of his life, guiding him in his actions and commitments. He also had been active and had served as President of the Charlotte chapter of PFLAG.

He was a kind and gentle soul with a big heart, known for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to never pass up a good joke, or to pass out a hug. Married for 69 years to his beloved “Rose Bud” Sue, he was a devoted husband and father to three children. Though his son Danny preceded him in death in 1986, Milt’s legacy continues through his wife Marcia “Sue” Thompson, his son David, daughter Diane, sister-in-law Penny Barr (Gary Tate), brother-in-law Bud (Danielle) Hawley, and many nieces and nephews.

Milt’s life was a testament to his generous spirit, his dedication to his family, and his ability to connect with others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank all of Milt’s Caregivers, and the staff at Wellmore Tega Cay and Via Healthcare for the tender and loving care they showed to Milt.

A service with reception following, will be held Friday, July 19, 2024 at 2:00pm at South Park Christian Church,

6650 Park South Dr., Charlotte NC 29210
