Minerva Cohen
January 9th, 1916 - November 2nd, 2006
It is with great sadness that the family of Minerva Cohen announces her passing on Thursday November 2, 2006. Having moved to St. Petersburg nearly 60 years ago with a young family, she was a well known member of the Jewish community. As prominent members of Congregation B'nai Israel in its earliest days, she and her husband Hy helped to make the community what it is today. She served as Sisterhood President of Congregation B'nai Israel and was an active Hadassah member. After years of being a homemaker, she joined her beloved sister Lily to create a legend in the city with the creation of Two Sisters candy, cards and gift store in what was then Central Plaza. That was also the beginning of the next dynasty, Threadneedle Street, a chain of stores throughout the area specializing in needlepoint, knitting and just socializing. But the real true passion in her life was her family and her friends. She leaves behind legions of those who adored her. She is predeceased by husband Hyman Cohen, sisters Lillian Yanchuck, Gilda Sasso and brother Jerry Schneider. Surviving her is a long list of relatives and family; daughters Nina Cohen of Miami, Carole Cohen of Marblehead, MA, brother-in-law AI Yanchuck, nieces Marsha Yanchuck, Linda Yanchuck (Atlanta), Ellen Schneider, Lisa Bourland (Ken) Atlanta; nephews Joel Yanchuck, Raymond Schneider (Susan) great nephew Adam Yanchuck (Sara),sister-in-Iaw Rozalind Tepper, Katina and Larry Williams and Chip (Adrianna) Williams. Funeral services will be 10AM Sunday, November 5, 2006 in the David C. Gross Funeral Home Chapel, 6366 Central Avenue with Rabbi Jacob Luski officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Largo. The family suggests memorials, in lieu of flowers, to Menorah Manor, 255 59th Street North, St. Petersburg FL 33710. Service Information
