Miriam Glee Collins

Miriam Glee Collins (Henderson), 76, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away after an extended illness January 8, 2021 on Johns Island, SC. Born in 1944, Glee graduated from Dentsville High School in 1962, later continuing her education at Columbia College. She was employed with the RL Bryan Company and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine prior to beginning her career as a homemaker. Glee’s infectious warmth and kind spirit meant that she never met a stranger. She doted on her children and grandchildren, always ready with a big hug and a kind word. A person of many interests, she especially enjoyed reading, crafting, and listening to music throughout her life, and was gifted at creating shared enjoyment in those pursuits. She had a strong Christian faith which provided her considerable comfort through life’s challenges. Glee had a unique regard for all animals, but especially so her pet cats. She remembered the companionship of Figaro, Tiger, and Guinevere particularly fondly among them. Glee is survived by her children, sons Michael Collins (Susan) of Lexington, SC and Mark Collins (Nicole Robinson) of Columbia, SC, daughter Kristin Curtis (Harry) of Johns Island, SC, and granddaughters Lindsey, Haley, and Abby. She was preceded in death by father Oliver Henderson, Sr., mother Miriam “Chick” (Jayroe), of Columbia, SC, and brother Lester of Elgin, SC. Due to health concerns, the family has chosen to celebrate Glee’s life in a memorial service at a later date.
