Miriam (MiMi) Kathryn Strickland Roberts, 93, passed away at LifeCare Center of Columbia on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. One of 9 children, she was born in Columbia, SC, on April 29, 1927, to the late Mary Thelma Cone Strickland & William Kelse Strickland, Sr. She attended the Columbia area schools & was a long-time member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church (now known as New Heights Church). She was predeceased by sisters Margaret (Margie) S. Moore, Edith S. Dunnicliff, Mary S. Holley & brothers W. Kelse, Jr., Otis C., Robert K., & Daniel R. Strickland. Miriam was the widow of Samuel Burroughs Roberts, Jr. They had one son, Samuel B. Roberts III, who died at age 49. Her husband, a military veteran, retired from a career in the US Air Force. In her support role as a military wife, some of her travels included The Pentagon in Washington, DC, Eglin AFB in Florida, SAC Base in Omaha, Nebraska, Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC, & 3 years spent in Australia. Miriam is survived by brother, Franklin B. Strickland, Sr. (Kay) of Aiken, SC, sister-in-law, Dorothy A. Strickland of Chapin, SC, two granddaughters, 2 great-grandchildren & a number of nieces, nephews & cousins/relatives. The family wishes to give special thanks to Roxanne Brewer for her many years of love, care, concern & kindness to MiMi. Roxanne has been the daughter to her that she had always wanted. The family is also appreciative of the care given to her by the staff of LifeCare Center of Columbia during her short illness; and, to Gregg Turner & the staff of Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington, SC, for their gracious guidance & assistance during this time. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Greg Dowey, will be held at a later date. Rest In Peace, MiMi.
