Monica Fosse Howell

Monica Fosse Howell peacefully passed away at the age of 86 on January 18, 2022, at her home in Olympia, Washington. Monica was born in Ottawa, Illinois, on June 26, 1935, to the late Harold and Sadie Friestad Fosse. In addition to her parents, Monica was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Monica graduated from Silver Cross Nursing School in Gillette, Illinois. She met her husband, Tom Howell, in San Francisco. Tom’s employment took them to Australia, Alaska and then Olympia, where he worked at Satsop Nuclear Plant. Her beloved husband passed away after a long illness. Monica nursed him throughout his extended illness. She is survived by many nieces and nephews across the country. Monica began her position as Director of Surgical Services at Providence St. Peter Hospital. She revolutionized surgical services during her time there. She flourished in a second career at Labor and Industries, doing claims review with Washington State. Monica remained close to the friends she worked with at St. Peter Hospital. She loved travel, the symphony, and gardening. Yearly she baked Norwegian dishes for her friends. A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at The United Churches of Olympia, 110 Eleventh Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
