Mortimer "Mort" H. Dykeman
December 23rd, 1925 - June 29th, 2015
Mortimer H. (Mort) Dykeman, Jr. passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Hospice house in Gloversville with his family at his side. Born December 23, 1925 in Carmel, New York, he was the son of the late Mortimer H. and Phebe Ganung Dykeman, Sr. He was a graduate of the Carmel High School. Mort was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he was stationed in the Philippines. As a Dairy Farmer he farmed in Patterson from 1954 until 1970 when he then moved to Ingersoll Road where he owned and operated a Dykeman & Sons dairy farm until retiring in 1984. Mort was a member of the Glen Reformed Church; the Farm Credit Bureau where he served as a Director for 15 years. He was also a member of the Agriculture Stabilization Committee and Director of the NY Artificial Breeders Association of NY State. Mort was a lifetime member of the Rolling Hills Golf Course at Antlers. On December 14, 1958 he married the former Gloria M. Koos who passed away on May 5, 2014. Survivors include his loving family, two sons, Roy M. Dykeman (Janine) and Raymond J. Dykeman (Brenda) both of the Town of Glen; one brother Amos A. Dykeman of Spring Hill, FL; a grandson, Kyle R. Dykeman and several cousins. Mort was predeceased by two brothers, Stuart M. Dykeman and Nathan C. Dykeman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Charles Hesselink officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Town of Glen Volunteer Fire Department, 134 Auriesville Road, Fultonville, NY 12072.
