Myrna Mathews Hueneke

April 27th, 1933 - October 25th, 2013

Myrna Mathews Hueneke died October 25, 2013. Myrna was born April 27, 1933 in South Bend WA to Myrna and Scott Mathews. She graduated from South Bend High School in 1951. She moved to Portland after graduation and soon started her career working for the Portland Elks Lodge. In 1955 Myrna married Dick Hueneke. They lived in the Beaverton area and enjoyed 54 years together before Dickā€™s death in 2009. Myrna was active in the Portland Emblem Club #133 for many years and served as President in 1989. A quote from her Presidentā€™s Message in their May 1989 newsletter speaks to her positive outlook on life. ā€œAs you have heard, my theme this year is ā€˜Create Happinessā€™. This can be done by each of us every day; all it takes is a friendly smile, a pleasant disposition and a cheerful voice. We can do so much to make the world a better place ā€“ just make one person happy each day!ā€ Myrna and Dick explored many parts of the world through their travel adventures and especially treasured their cruises with good friends. Throughout her life Myrna enjoyed spending time at the beach as both her grandparents and parents had beach houses over the years. Many wonderful family times were shared over sandy feet and a dinner of freshly dug razor clams. Myrna enjoyed her family and friends and looked for the good in everyone. She gave her time to many charity efforts throughout her life. She will be deeply missed. Myrna is survived by several nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; parents, Myrna and Scott Mathews; and sister, Peggy Busse. At her request, no public services will be held. Remembrances can be made to Meals on Wheels People, 7710 SW 31st Avenue, Portland, OR 97219.
