Myunghee Bae
January 19th, 1946 - July 6th, 2021
Myunghee 'May' Bae was born in Youngjoo, Korea on January 19, 1946, and died in Edmonds, Washington, on July 6, 2021. She was the third child of Sohn, Sei Ho and Yu, Wi Nam. Myunghee attended Ewha Girls’ High School and Ewha Women's University, in Seoul, Korea, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1968. She formed many long lasting friendships and will be deeply missed by her friends all over the world. Following her graduation, she married her husband and raised two children with love and dedication. Myunghee and her family immigrated to the United States in 1985. While adapting to the many challenges of immigrant life, she earned a certificate in accounting and got a full-time job to support her family. This led her to have a distinguished 25-year career as an accountant. She became an active member of local Korean churches as well. Raised in a Buddhist family, she strived to become a more fervent Christian, steady in her pursuit to learn more about God. She attended early-morning prayer for years. She relied on her faith throughout the two-year imprisonment of her son Kenneth Bae in North Korea. She enjoyed her retirement life fully, traveling to explore the many natural beauties in the States as well as the far corners of the world, ranging from New Zealand, Morocco, Israel, China, and numerous European countries. She particularly enjoyed learning about different cultures and interacting with the locals. She taught herself photography and was enthusiastic about documenting her travels to share with others at home. Being an avid learner of the arts for her lifetime, she also became quite proficient in watercolor painting. She shared her talents by participating in local art exhibits and gifting her paintings to family and friends. Myunghee created many memories that will never be forgotten by her family and friends. Most especially, she will be remembered for her integrity and her absolute commitment to family. Her passing leaves a huge void in our lives. Myunghee is survived by her husband Seong Seo Bae; children Kenneth (Junho) and Terri (Suhyun); grandchildren Jonathan, Sofia, Natalie, Ella, and Caitlin; siblings Gi Rack, Sung Rack, and Dong Chul. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Su Rack and Seunghee.
