Nadine Lockwood passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2020, after living all of her 93 years to their absolute fullest. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, William K. Lockwood and wife, Robin of Beaverton, Oregon; her daughter, Kerry Lockwood and husband, Dick of Pioneer, California; her son, Steve Ballard and wife, Julie of Lake Elsinore, California; her daughter, Dorene Barnes and husband, Doug of Rohnert Park, California; and Cyndi Thompson and husband, John of Belen, New Mexico; as well as 13 grandchildren and many precious great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, with whom she shared 57 years of joys and adventures; her dearest sisters, June and Polly, and her four wonderful brothers, Homer, Clint, Kenneth and Weldon Fannon. Nadine was born in Sparenburg, Texas on November 12, 1926 to Raymond Clyde and Mary Panola Fannon. After graduating from O’Donnell High School in Texas she went on to serve her country during WWII working as a secretary for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. After the war, she moved to Oakland, California with her girlfriends from D.C. and took a secretarial job at Blue Cross. It was there that she met the love of her life, her husband, Bill Lockwood. Nadine was utterly dedicated as a wife and mother, her husband and children were always her first loves. Her next greatest love was button collecting. She began collecting buttons in the early 1970’s when she caught the “bug” from her sister, June. Buttons were so much a cherished love and hobby of hers that she even named the family dog “Buttons”! She was an active member in the Santa Clara Valley Button Club and the California State Button Society. She spent countless hours collecting and displaying her buttons, entering many of them in California and Oregon shows, for which she won numerous awards. Nadine was also an excellent golfer. She and Bill shared a love of golf and played together for many years. Even up until the age of 83, Nadine continued to meet weekly with her friends in the women’s golf group at Boundary Oaks Golf Course in Walnut Creek. She and her husband, Bill, were also avid camellia growers and were members of the Northern California Camellia Society. Nadine was a happy and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and good friend to many. Always supportive, encouraging, fun, and kind, she was a caring woman who was truly the light of many lives. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Please honor her by finding beauty in the world around you, and by enjoying life as she did. And should you happen to stumble across a beautiful button, give a smile and think of her! For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to the Hospice of Amador and Calaveras County, 1500 S. Highway 49, Suite 205, Jackson, California, 95642. A private funeral service for Nadine is to be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her eternally beloved and proud WWII Veteran, Bill Lockwood.
