Nancy Louise Meaders Barker Mrs. Barker, 85, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2010, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on January 18, 1925 in Claremont, NC, daughter of the late Trimbley Casey Meaders and Essie Frye Meaders. Mrs. Barker was a graduate of Balls Creek High School, and on November 18, 1944, married the love of her life, Mr. J.E. Barker. She retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in 1997 after twenty seven years of service. Mrs. Barker also worked part time at The Charlotte Observer for twenty five years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Jimmy Anthony Barker. Mrs. Barker is survived by her children, Mary Ann Turner of Rolesville, NC, Paul Barker of Charlotte, NC, Donald Barker of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Barker of Florida, and Betty Jean Barker of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Billie Catherine Priest of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank their sister, Betty Jean for the love and care she gave to their parents for the last three years. They would also like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, especially Robin, Betty, Susan, and Collette for the care they gave. Funeral service will be at the graveside, at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 2400 Balls Creek Road, Claremont, NC 28610 with the Reverend Dr. Joanne Stancil and the Reverend James Sides, officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, July 28, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
