Nancy Beaty Byrum Following a brief illness, Nancy Beaty Byrum, 98, died on December 25, 2013. Nancy was born on April 3, 1915 to Lawrence Wesley and Blake Pittman Beaty. A native of Charlotte, NC, she attended Central High School and Queens College. She later married Joe E. Byrum who predeceased her as did her parents and her brother, Lawrence Wesley Beaty, Jr. Mrs. Byrum is survived by her sons, Joseph Stephen Byrum and David Wesley Byrum; grandsons, David Carter Byrum and Joseph Stephen Byrum, Jr. and his wife, Christine Rudiger; and great granddaughters, Emma Blake, Mary Madeline, Martha Barnwell and Christine Spencer Byrum. Although she was unable to pursue all of her interest in the last years of her life, Nancy enjoyed the theater, reading, and playing bridge with her friends. She also looked forward to time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Nancy devoted time earlier in her life to serving as a member and former President of the Panhellenic Council at Queens and serving as a Circle Chairman and Mission Group leader at her church, Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian. A graveside service was held for the family on December 28, 2013 at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Rush Otey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
