Nancy Lee Casey

February 10th, 1935 - August 16th, 2012

Nancy Lee (Dixon) Casey, 77, of Caldwell, died August 16, 2012, in Caldwell, Idaho, after a long, and brave, battle with Parkinson’s. Nancy was born February 10, 1935, in Scheller, IL, the youngest of the nine children of Andrew Jackson Dixon and Elsie Mae (Shelton) Dixon. Nancy graduated from Waltonville High School in 1953, and married Tommy Atkins on September 24, 1954. They divorced shortly after their son, Mark, was born. Following the divorce, she and Mark moved to Idaho to join two of her sisters already living there and began working as a switchboard operator for the phone company. It was there that she met Fred Duke, and they married on December 7, 1956. He brought his two daughters, Mary and Donna, to the relationship. And in 1960, Nancy gave him a third daughter, Leslie. Nancy and Fred were married until his death in 1978. She then met Walter Casey, and they married April 23, 1982. Life really began in earnest for her then as they traveled the country extensively and entertained often. Nancy was the consummate hostess, preparing scrumptious meals and setting beautiful tables. As Telephone Pioneers of America members, they both attended and hosted many a campout. Walt and Nancy were married 27 years until his death, exactly a year before, on August 16, 2011. Nancy also was a dedicated patriot. July 4th was on even par with Christmas as her favorite holiday, and red, white and blue were her favorite colors whether for clothing, table décor, or even the flowers in the garden that Walt planted for her. She was as generous as she was patriotic, keeping mental notes of needs and wants, then finding those special items to give as gifts. She was talented and creative, loved music, stained glass, sewing, reading romance and mystery novels, camping, and feeding her hummingbirds. She also was an accomplished fisherwoman, out-fishing most of those who fished with her. Nancy will be sorely missed by all who knew her, including each one of her caregivers. A special thanks to the staff at her care facilities, and to the hospice teams who watched over her. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven of her eight siblings. Her legacy of love remains in her son, Mark Atkins (Crystal); daughter Leslie Eyton (Steve); stepson Steven L. Casey ( Linda); stepson Gregory S. Casey Sr. (Julia); stepdaughter Carlee Casey (Janina); and stepdaughters Mary Hartman and Donna Scharfen. Her grandchildren include Ambur Emrich, Steven C. Eyton (Stacy), Tara Nelson (John), Jeff Casey, Jackson T. Eyton (Rosa), Gregory S. Casey Jr., Aaron Atkins, and Adam Atkins. Great-grandchildren include Braden and Reese, twins Raegan Ann and Rylee Jo, Trinity, and Daniel. Nancy’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Interment will follow at Joplin Cemetery, Meridian, ID. To family, My sincere condolences .There is no greater pain than the death of a loved one. Sometimes it seems almost more than a person can bear. Jehovah God helps us with this in His word. He promises us that He will put a stop to all sickness and death will be no more (REV 21;3.4) Jehovah shows His love for us through the ransom sacrifice of His beloved son Jesus Christ. What a wonderful gift to be given ! Then the hope of seeing one's loved ones again on this earth transformed in a paradise as it was Jehovah's will when He created Adam & Eve .

May Your Memories Bring you Comfort. I know I will cherish fond memories of good times spent in the care of Great Aunt Nancy. It was always exciting for Linda and I to get to go to Boise to see her and our cousin Leslie. I will also never forget the many camping trips we took in the rain, and her patience with us in bringing a bunch of frogs and tadpoles into her camper trailer, especially when some of them got loose :). She was also a fantastic cook and never made me eat Miracle Whip, for she always had real mayonase on hand just for Linda and I. Again, lots of childhood memories of the times we had the opportunity to spend with our Great Aunt Nancy. She was also an inspiration to both Bart and I as well, during the rough times of military deployments, which took us away from family and friends. Her courage in the fight against a very dilberating disease serves as an inspiration to others facing similiar life challenges. We will miss you Nancy, but just know it is simply a "see you later" and we will definately meet again. Love Always, Laura, Bart and Anni Hill

Martin, Linda and Jett Armstrong

Nancy, For all the fun-filled camping trips, the easter egg hunting adventures on Belmont, the nights learning how to play cards with Laura, Leslie and my Mom (Charlotte) where we tried to teach Leslie how to play : ) the fantastic dinners you made for us while visiting in Boise, the laughter we shared, the time you let me drive your fancy new Camaro Berlinetta in downtown Jerome Idaho unsupervised!, the nights you let us three girls Laura, Leslie and Linda play out in the camp trailer until all hours of the night, for all the hours you let me bend your ear over the phone, I am truly grateful. To the best Great Aunt a girl could have, I look forward to when we can catch up on all the antics of Leslie, somebody has to tell you what's been going on. Say howdy to Walt, Jett sends her loving licks and Marty his best wishes. Now relax and enjoy a peaceful life with Walt. Love forever, Linda, Marty and Jett.
