Nancy Lena Dickinson

November 4th, 1951 - August 9th, 2024

With profound sadness, we announce that Nancy Lena Dickinson (née Helems) passed away on August 9, 2024, at her home in Hadley, MA, surrounded by the love of her husband and daughter. Born on November 4, 1951, in Northampton, MA, she was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Nancy lived a life of resilience and an unwavering love for those around her. She leaves behind her devoted husband, James D. Dickinson, with whom she shared 48 incredible years. Together, they built not just houses, but a home filled with shared dreams and deep loyalty.

Her daughter, Meghan Dickinson, feels the profound loss of a mother who poured all her hopes and dreams into her, and who took immense pride in the woman Meghan became. Nancy is also survived by her sister, Marlene Childs, and her cherished nieces, Laurie Ryan and Michelle Poudrier Moreau. Martha Montgomery, Nancy’s closest confidante and dearest friend, will always hold her in fond remembrance.

Nancy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Raymond L. Helems and Adwilda (LaFond) Helems, whose memories remained a guiding light in her life.

Professionally, Nancy devoted more than 30 years to real estate, spending her final years with Gallagher Real Estate, where she developed a special fondness for Paul Gallagher. Before her successful real estate career, she worked as a hairdresser, bringing joy and beauty to her clients.

Nancy had a deep love for antiques and even ran her own antique shop for a time. She had a special place in her heart for Scottish Terriers and shared her home and heart with many throughout the years. Jewelry and trinkets were another of her joys, each piece reflecting her vibrant personality. She also cherished the poetry of Emily Dickinson and took great pride in her husband’s relation to the poet.

Nancy was a fiery spirit, known for her generosity to everyone she met. She lived life with a passion that was contagious, bringing joy and warmth to those around her. Services will be private, in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA, honoring causes that were close to her heart.

Nancy Lena Dickinson will be remembered for the strength and love she gave freely and the bright energy she brought to every room. May her memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew her.
