Nancy Jo Plummer Hammagren
June 9th, 1937 - August 10th, 2024
Nancy surprised her parents, Melba and Bob, when she entered the world on June 9, 1937, as an unexpected twin. Born in Bend, OR, the “Plummer twins” Nancy and Mary were lifelong best friends who enjoyed a humble, happy childhood in a house built by family, filled with home-cooked meals and plenty of love.
Nancy would tell of meeting a handsome sailor who was home on leave during her senior year of high school; they would marry in November 1955, following her graduation. Her marriage to Chan Hammagren would welcome daughter Chandra and son Chuck. Nancy would count Chan as one of her greatest blessings, wed 68 years until Chan’s death earlier this year.
In 1958, the Hammagren family followed Chan’s job with United Airlines to Boise, where they would be active members of Boise First Church of the Nazarene. Nancy and Chan found many lifelong friends at Boise First, enjoying dinners, games, outings, and travel together. Nancy prioritized enduring friendships with “the girls,” enjoying many brunches together and sharing their lives
Nancy worked at Mountain View Medical Center from 1968-2003 and served as a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital after retirement.
Chan, Nancy, her twin Mary and husband Bill were world travelers, constantly adventuring around the globe. Nancy and Mary inherited an infectious laugh, and the four would light up the room with their collective storytelling.
Nancy was known for her gracious poise and loyalty. She created a beautiful home, hosting delicious dinners that she’d craft while somehow never dirtying her kitchen. She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed many of her family’s clothes for decades, including matching holiday attire and even a prom dress or two.
Nancy was a devoted and proud mother and was delighted by the addition of seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She and Chan never missed a family gathering, attending every wedding, holiday, birthday party, and graduation.
A beloved Grammy, Nancy ensured she was always available for a quick hug with a listening ear. She kept little tubs of gumdrops and a toy bin ready for the great-grandkids who stopped by.
In her last year, Nancy’s retirement home, Morning Star, provided wonderful care and companionship for her. We thank those who surrounded her with dignity, love, and care in her last months.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, twin, parents, and a brother. She will be remembered by her children Chandra, Chuck, and daughter-in-law Debbie, and their families. Grandchildren Ryan (Katie), Shauna (Coby), Tarah (Scott), Erik (Becca), Lisa (Chris), Kieryn, and Kailyn. Great-grandchildren Chandler, Jack, Tezeta, Hannah, Gabriel, Abigail, Gideon, Hosea, Luke, Caleb, Isaiah, Liana, and Dylan.
