Nancy Lee, age 88, was preceded in death by one son (Randy J Beierle), and survived by her other six children; Linda J Vasbinder, Douglas R Brown, Sharon J Lindsey, Allen D Brown (& wife Peggy), Jeffrey L Beierle, all in the Denver metro area, and Brian J Brown of Oklahoma. She is also survived by her brother William (Bill) Moore (& wife Kathy), and one sister in California, Sandy Becraft. Nancy has 13 grandchildren, numerous great grand-children and several great-great grandchildren. Nancy Lee Fischer was born in Julesburg, Colorado a year before the stock-market crash of 1929. Her childhood was spent in a small clapboard home on Julesburg’s main street, close to where her father and uncle worked as clerks in their father’s (Nancy’s grandfather) mercantile store. Nancy did not complete much school at that time, as back then an eight grade education seemed sufficient. She moved to Denver just before turning 20 and married our father. She gave birth to her first four children with him. After 17 years she was divorced from him and married her second husband, where she had another three children, seven in all. She divorced after seven years of marriage. Nancy was very protective of all her seven children, they were her passion in life. As she raised her children, she would punish those who made mistakes, and praise those who excelled. She overlooked the flaws any of them may have had, sometimes to a fault. Nancy raised all her children in a Pentecostal Christian church. Nancy was modest, unassuming, and an easy going person and had no difficulty making friends wherever she went. She was always friendly with everyone, and also had a good, quick sense of humor (that’s from being from a family with many ornery uncles). All of her kids always had to be on their toes for the pranks any one of her uncles would play on them, including Nancy’s own brother. Trying to raise seven children with only an eight grade education was difficult for her. At the age of 37, she went to Emily Griffith Opportunity School, and on her first entrance exam, passed it to receive her GED. She took administrative classes and breezed through them as well, and was quickly hired by the Colorado State Department of Health & Human Services, where she worked until her retirement in 1988, and then she was called back three consecutive times to work part time for them, finally retiring permanently in 1992. She loved ballroom and country western dancing and would follow the Mountain Gold band around since they were close friends of hers. Her children would often join her wherever they were playing to dance as well. Nancy taught a couple of her kids and grandkids several different dances (she was a good teacher too). One time, she brought her own mom with her, and being an extremely devout Christian, we didn’t think our grandmother could, or would dance. We couldn’t believe what a smooth dancer she actually was! Nancy was the force behind arranging family picnics where everyone would play softball games, or just sit and visit at Conservatory Park on East Evans Avenue, with many brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, etc. Nancy was very talented at writing poetry of many styles, the most popular were the ones that the first letter of each line spelled out someone’s name, and the poem was a positive description of that person’s personality at that time in their life. About 10 years ago Nancy moved into a senior living apartment complex where she made so many friends. It was difficult to know how many were close as she would say “hi” to every one there and stop and talk to them. Nancy would spend hours playing cards with her close friends, especially Bill, where they would go to McDonald’s across the street to hang out, drink Frappuccino’s, and just talk. It is somewhat a relief to those of us who were close to her, to not see her in pain and suffering as she was, and she will truly be missed by all that knew her. We feel she is now in heaven dancing with the angels.
