The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Nancy C. Miller
December 12th, 1939 - February 11th, 2024
Nancy Miller, age 84, passed away on February 11, 2024, in Hilton Head, SC. She was born Nancy Christensen on December 12, 1939, in Madison, WI, to Elsie and Harlan Christensen. Nancy is survived by her twin brother Tom Christensen, son Andrew (wife Joanne), daughter Amy Crisp (husband Brandon), and her beloved grandchildren Ridge, Coby, Terra, Nathan, Molly, Anna, AJ, and Kermit. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jim Christensen. Nancy was a proper lady, always meticulously coiffed and dressed, and her home was always immaculate. She took adversity in stride and was even-tempered. Nancy was a kind and devoted mother to her children, Amy and Andrew, often keeping them lovingly clothed in hand-knit sweaters. She was also a wonderful grandmother to their children. Much of her energy was devoted to God and the church. Nancy traveled the world, including pilgrimages to Israel and Portugal, visits to the UK, and to the countries of her ancestors, Norway and Denmark. Nancy attended West High School in Madison, Wisconsin, and went on to study Home Economics with a concentration in Child Development at the University of Wisconsin. Throughout her career, Nancy worked as a Kindergarten teacher in Elmhurst, Illinois and Paisley, Scotland, while her husband John was in Seminary. In the 1980s, she and two of her friends operated Tisket and Tasket on the Island, a gift basket operation. Nancy also served as a preschool teacher at First Presbyterian Day School and later enjoyed the perks of her part-time job at Banana Republic. Nancy was involved for many years as the pastor's wife at First Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head and more recently found a church home at Holy Family Catholic Church, where she served as a Religious Educator and Lay Eucharistic Minister. In her free time, Nancy was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and P.E.O. philanthropic organization, and she cherished her friendships within these groups. Her comforting manner, penchant for sweets, and easy laugh will be greatly missed. There will be a visitation at The Island Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 29, and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 1, at Holy Family Catholic Church on Hilton Head at 11:00 am to be followed by a reception. Nancy will be buried at Six Oaks Cemetery. Please join Nancy's family and friends in celebrating her life and sharing cherished memories during the visitation.
