Nathaniel "Nate" James Riley
July 31st, 1993 - July 11th, 2024
Nathaniel James Riley, a Hilton Head Island native, passed away on July 11, 2024, in a traffic accident. He graduated from Hilton Head High School in 2011. Nate worked at Broad Creek Marina and operated the Tighten Up fishing charter. Nate was a recognizable and beloved member of the community. He is survived by His Betrothed, Kenzie Spahr; son, Ryder James Riley, daughter, Elliana; parents, Steve and Mary Jo Riley; sister, Erin (Bob Mann); brothers, Paul (Katie) and Taylor; nephews, Brennen, Sullivan, and William; nieces, Danika (Mike Anthony), Bobbie Jo, Lulu, and Maura, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Nate loved to be known as “the Notorious NateDogg,” but also answered to Captain Nate! He was a charismatic and energetic personality who made friends wherever he went and could always make whoever he was around feel like they had a special connection with him. Nate quickly found a close group of friends during his early school years due to his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Nate would be known as a loyal friend who would always put the needs of others ahead of his own. His dynamic and outgoing personality allowed Nate to easily make connections with any person or group. Kenzie and Nate would first connect while working at Giuseppi’s Pizza in Shelter Cove during their high school years. Growing up on the Island, he quickly found a love of the ocean, fishing, and music. This led him to work at Broad Creek Marina. His adventure-seeking personality then took him to North Carolina in 2017. But after a time, his love of the ocean would lead him back to the Island and to the marina. Simultaneously, he pursued his dream and became a charter boat captain. In early 2023, Nate and Kenzie would reconnect quickly, recognizing the other as their soul mate. They would make the most of their time together, traveling, boating, dancing, and attending music festivals. Nate was taken from the world too soon, leaving the world a little less bright.
A Celebration of Nate’s Life will be held on August 5, 2024, from 7:30pm-9:30pm at Fishcamp on Broad Creek.
