Nellie Fox

Nellie Fox of Olympia, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Pieternella “Nellie” Johanna Van Parys was born in Klundert, Holland on May 24, 1920, to Johannes and Johanna Van Parys. Her family moved to the United States in 1920 and settled in Seattle. Nellie developed polio at the age of five and had numerous surgeries due to complications of the disease. Nellie attended St. George Parish School and Holy Names Academy in Seattle. In 1940, she married Vernon Fox and together they raised their family in Seattle. Nellie was a devoted wife and mother, putting all her energies into raising a family and maintaining their home. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Nellie had a wonderful sense of humor and often joked with those she knew or even just met. She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed church activities, including bingo. She enjoyed reading and took up water aerobics. She became the life of the party at the pool. Nellie loved socializing and interacting with everyone around her. Nellie is survived by her five children: Vicki Jones and her husband Floyd of Lacey, Washington; Brad Fox and his wife Annabelle of Anacortes, Washington; Stephanie Geyer and her husband George of Las Vegas, Nevada; Leslie Ring of Allyn, Washington; and Greg Fox and his wife Pam of Kirkland, Washington. Nellie also had nine grandchildren: Wendy, Michelle, Mark, Heather, Justin, Amanda, Nathan, Sabrina, and Julie. She also had numerous great-grandchildren.
