Nereida "Nelly" Aquiar

January 7th, 1943 - April 17th, 2024

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Nereida “Nelly” Aquiar passed away peacefully, at home, at the age of 81. Nelly was born January 7, 1943 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Carmen Maldonado and Flor Vega. Nelly moved to Brooklyn, New York as a young child. There, she attended school, later married, and started a family. She worked as a customer service specialist for Cascade General Linen Service for over 30 years and was a proud New Yorker, even after relocating to Arizona upon her retirement.

Nelly was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is now reunited in Heaven with her children, George and Dawn. She is survived by her daughter Leslie and leaves a legacy of unconditional love and constant prayer for her grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Whitney, Peter, Bianca, Angelica, and Kristina. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Nelly will also be remembered for her love of flowers and pretty little things, including her toy poodle—and constant companion—Cannoli. She was a massive sports fan, a TV & movie buff, and enjoyed music of all genres. She was a champion at trivia. The Christmas holidays were her favorite time of year.

She will be missed beyond measure.

At Nelly‘s request, there will be no formal service, but the family will gather at a later time to celebrate her life.

Nana, you did an amazing job at all the hats you wore throughout your life. You’re with some of the people you’ve loved most in heaven. Memories with you, I will cherish forever. Looking at photos of you and Isabella when you first met her and the pure happiness that goes across both of yours faces.. Isabella still has the little lamb you picked out for her in her bedroom. Without a doubt, your mark on this world will be forever lasting in the hearts of those who met you.

You were without a doubt the most put-together, classy, bougie, classic New York hottie I will ever meet in my life. It was an absolute honor and blessing to have been your granddaughter the last 26 years and to watch you and learn from you. Thank you for taking part in raising me, for instilling confidence, pride, and the importance of cleanliness into my life, I will never forget your reminders and love. Thank you for your endless prayers for my safety, security, and happiness. Thank you for the endless jokes, laughs, and always being there for me. My heart will forever ache for you, my beautiful Nana. Bendicion.

To Leslie and family my prayers and condolences for your loss: Crossing over Oh, please don’t feel guilty. It was just my time to go I see you are still feeling sad and the tears just seem to flow. We all come to earth for our lifetime and for some it’s not many years. I don’t want you to keep crying. You are shedding so many tears I haven’t really left you, even though it may seem so I have just gone to my heavenly home and I’m closer to you than you know just believe that when you say my name I’m standing next to you I know you long to see me but there’s nothing I can do but I still send new messages and hope you understand that when your time comes to crossover, I’ll be there to take your hand

Mark F. What can be said about a force of nature who loved with all her heart those that she trusted and nurtured ..Nelly welcomed me into her home as if I were her son. She was sharp as a tack and as loving as a rose. A mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her legacy lives on in her daughter Leslie and all of her grand and great grandchildren. She will never be gone from our hearts and memories and every good memory she is always and forever with us...Our Lord and savior has gained an amazing addition to the Kingdom. I will thank him every single day for blessing me and others with that love, strength and amazing spirit....❤️❤️🙏🏿🙏🏿
