Nicholas Auriemma
December 2nd, 1934 - November 17th, 2016
Nicholas Auriemma, 81, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 17, 2016. Born on December 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph and Antoinette (DiCaprio) Auriemma. Nicholas worked for Pepsi Cola for 27 years. After retirement, he worked for Liberty Enterprises bringing smiles to many clients' faces. He served in the US Army for three years from 1957 to 1960. He was a member of the American Legion Post #337 in Broadalbin and was a member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, being the first fishing party ever to go out with the world famous Yankee Fishing Fleet out of Gloucester, MA. Nick could be found in his box seat at every Mohawks Game at Shuttleworth Park, even sitting in the dugout before games chatting with the players and coach Griffin. He enjoyed bus trips to the casino to play bingo with his wife, going to hockey games with his grandson and spending time with his family. He also spent many hours, sitting behind the counter with the famous unlit cigar at AAA Mobil with his special friend, Andrew Anganu. Survivors include his loving wife, Toni Wickes Auriemma whom he married on December 1, 1986. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Kim (Dave) Smith of Amsterdam. His son, Michael (Michele) Auriemma of Amsterdam and Danise (Rick) Hall of CT. Step-children, Bill(Pam) Wickes and Karen Wickes. His adored grandchildren, Ryan (Mackenzie) and Justin (Gladys) Crawford. Jillian (Thomas) Wohlfahrt, Katie (John) Capone, Nicholas (Brittney)Auriemma, Danielle and Briana Hall, Ella, Cole and Luke Wickes. Beloved Great-Grandchildren, Giana and Kaelyn Capone and Bryce Crawford. He was also expecting a new great-grandson, Ryan Nicholas Crawford, Jr. any day. A special Aunt, Alice Auriemma also survives along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. Other than his parents, Nicholas was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Auriemma, sister, Marion Sala and grandson, Brad Crawford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday November 20, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. A Prayer service for Nicholas will be held following the visitation at the funeral home at 5:00PM where military funeral honors will be rendered. The Cranesville Fire Department will conduct a service at 4:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Donations in Nicholas' name will to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Great Sacandaga Lake Fisheries Federation, PO Box #991, Northville, NY 12134.
