Nicholas Antonio Bates

January 27th, 1993 - August 6th, 2024

Nicholas Antonio Bates, also known as “Nick” to everyone, was born January 27th, 1993. Nick was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Crystal Lewis and Ramon Bates. Ramon passed in the year of 1995 and Nick then gained a stepfather, Napolian (Pocat) Reed, and three step-sisters, Tamika “Mika” Beason, Kamilah “Mooder” Reed and Randa Reed. Nick is the first of his siblings from Crystal following Khadijah “Dijah” Reed and Napolian “Nate” Reed.

Nicholas, Khadijah and Napolian  were back and forth between the cities of Phoenix, AZ and San Diego, CA as young children. They both attended Mead Preschool in San Diego, CA and after Napolian “Nate” was born, they moved back to Phoenix, AZ to attend Machan Elementary School. When Nick was in 3rd grade they all moved back to San Diego, CA and all including younger brother/sibling Nate attended Chollas Elementary School. Nick then graduated elementary school and attended Gompers Middle School for grades 5th - 8th, and then went to Lincoln High School his freshman year with sibling Khadijah “Dijah” also located in Southeast San Diego, California. They both transferred to San Diego High School in 2013, Khadijah stayed there and Nicholas moved back to his home state with his mother Crystal Lewis.

Nick was a very hard worker as well as a natural born hustler. He always made sure that he was taking care of his family and that he could contribute in some way, shape, or form. Nick had work experience in customer service, hospitality, construction, and as a general laborer. Nick ended his working days at Labor Maxx in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Nick was always out and about as he spent a lot of time with his friends, but was always sure to check in with his immediate family to make sure they all knew he was okay.

In 2022 Nick gained a son, Jedidiah “Jedi” Antonio Brownlow-Bates from his significant other, Elizabeth Brownlow. Along she brought Uriah, Jeremiah, and Messiah as stepsons to Nick and brothers/siblings to Jedidiah. In August of 2023 Nick moved to Colorado Springs with his mothers Crystal Lewis and Patricia Lee bringing Jedidiah along for a better life.

Nick was a very sociable person and loved the spotlight as he loved to rap and make music. He always brought life to a room full of people as well as made as many people smile as he could. He never wanted anyone to feel uncomfortable or left out of anything so he always made sure to involve everyone at family events and parties. He was a great father to his son Jedidiah and loved him greatly as if he was the only thing on earth. Nick leaves behind a legacy for Jedidiah to carry on.

Nicholas was preceded by father Ramon Bates and stepfather Napolian “Pocat” Reed; grandmother Deborah Solarez; great-grandmother Eleanor Rivera; great-grandfather Martin Rivera; and uncles Martin “Jr” Rivera and Gabriel Rivera.

Nick is survived by mothers Crystal Lewis and Patricia Lee; son Jedidiah Brownlow-Bates, stepsons Uriah, Jeremiah, and Messiah; brothers Napolian “Nate” Reed and Lee Culver; sisters Khadijah Reed, Tamika Beason, Kamilah Reed, Randa Reed, Ashley Lee, and Alicia Lee; significant other Elizabeth Brownlow; grandmother Eula Lewis and grandfather Calvin Lewis; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to mourn his passing.
