Tribute & Tallent Funeral and Cremations
Nicholas Angelo Bernardini
November 29th, 1928 - March 25th, 2017
Nicholas A. Bernardini (Nick), 88, originally of Liverpool, and beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend; passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Iredell County Gordon House Hospice House in Statesville, North Carolina. Nick was born on November 29, 1928 in Syracuse, New York, where he resided until just over 1 year ago, when he moved with his son, Joseph, and wife, Anna, to Charlotte, North Carolina; so that he could live near his son Andrew, daughter-in-law, Holly, and grandson, Nicholas (proudly, his namesake). Nick is a 1947 graduate of the Syracuse City School District. Shortly thereafter, Nick was drafted by the United States Army, during the Korean War, where he proudly served our country for 4 years. Thereafter, Nick was a devoted worker for his brother-in-law"s business, Rotondo"s Warehouse, for over 40 years. During his time in the Army, Nick was everyone"s favorite cook, and his pictures from that time period reflect this, as he often was seen wearing an apron. He also boasted that his Army-mates loved his pasta sauce, which only took him a half an hour to make. Although skeptical at first, his sons were finally able to taste this "masterpiece" only a few years ago, and were happily surprised as to how great the sauce truly was! Nick loved golf, fishing, and bowling. He even hit a hole in one at his favorite golf course, Pope"s Grove; and bowled a 300 game at Expressway Lanes; and was never ashamed to tell anyone who would listen. In fact, he would volunteer this information to strangers who were in ear-shot. Nick treasured time with his children and grandchildren, and was happiest sharing a good meal with a delicious dessert at the end. He was forever grateful to the many people that cared for him, especially his son, Joseph; and his wife, Anna. Nick is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 46 years, Anna (Biasi) Bernardini; his sons Joseph Bernardini of Statesville, North Carolina and Andrew Bernardini (Holly) of Mooresville, North Carolina; daughter Diane Tedd (Rob) of Bridgeport, New York; and by his beloved and treasured grandchildren. On March 30, 2017, Nick"s immediate family attended a very small, intimate church service in Mooresville, North Carolina. At the service, the priest"s message was a focus on all of our thankfulness to the Lord for the good times that we were privileged to have with Nick, rather than sadness of his passing. Nick was best known for his great sense of humor and wit, and always had a joke ready to tell (he even kept notes of ones he particularly liked in his hat). Nick will truly be missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nicholas" name, to his very favorite charity, St. Jude"s Children"s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org or 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
