Nicole E. Bills

May 11th, 1978 - August 18th, 2024

The world lost an incredible mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend with the passing of Nicole Elizabeth Bills, 46, of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Nicole spent her final days surrounded by those she holds near and dear, before passing on August 18th, 2024.  Our sweet Nicole was a bright light, compassionate and strong in ways that touched the hearts of many.

Nicole graduated from Garber High School and continued her education at Central Michigan University, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.  She spent the last 17 years of her career as a tenured employee at Bank of America.

Growing up in Bay City, Michigan, Nicole was a gifted gymnast, earning a scholoarship to compete on a national level at CMU. Her collegiate career was highlighted when she became the first CMU gymnast to qualify for the NCAA National Competition. Nicole’s successful gymnstics career earned her a place in the CMU Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame.  After retiring from gymnastics, she went on to dance with the Charlotte Ladycats as a professional NBA dancer.

Nicole lived a life filled with dedication to her family and community.  Her greatest joy in life was being the devoted mother to her three sons Oliver, Theodore, and Finnegan.  She combined that joy with unrivaled creativity and planning prowess, hosting special events that her family and friends will never forget.  Nicole’s selfless nature extended beyond her family as she devoted countless hours volunteering her time and energy within her childrens’ schools.

To carry on her legacy, Nicole leaves behind her parents; Dale and Holly Bills; children, Oliver, Theodore, and Finnegan Golomb and their father; siblings Jennifer (Brian) Kennedy and Ryan (Amanda) Bills; neices and nephews, Riley Kennedy, Samuel Kennedy, Reese Hager, and Charli Bills; grandmother, Betty Haga; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Nicole was preceded in death by her grandparents; Leigh Haga and James and Emma Bills.

Nicole will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and personality, which lit up any room. Though she may no longer be with us here on Earth, her spirit, love and memory will live on in each of us who were blessed to know her.

Friends are invited to gather with the family on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, located at 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.  The funeral ceremony will follow at 3pm in the funeral home chapel.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.  In addition, the family is requesting guests to consider bringing a favorite photo of Nicole to serve as a keepsake for her children.

The family will also hold a Celebration of Life for Nicole in Bay City, Michigan on September 7th, 2024 with details to follow.

Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home

At Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, nestled in the historic heart of Dilworth, we have provided families in the Charlotte area with customizable memorial services for many years. Our services are crafted to honor your loved ones in ways that are both deeply meaningful and healing. Our rich history began in 1946 when Irvin W. Hankins and James B. Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity.

How did you meet Nicole?

I had the pleasure of knowing Nicole, aka “Bills”, as a Lady Cat teammate from 2008 to 2010. I remember looking up to her and the other veteran dancers, wanting to be just like them. My years as a Lady Cat are some of my fondest memories, and Nicole will always be a part of them. It saddens me to hear of her passing and I pray for solace, for her family and young boys, during this difficult time. She will never be forgotten and forever missed. #dolladollabills
