Biography Kernersville-Dr. Nicole Christine Powell, 41, died September 25, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Paul Dechant, O.S.F.S. officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Scottsdale, Arizona. A native of Orange County, California, Nicole was the daughter of Darlene Matteucci and the late Billy Smith. She graduated from the University of Illinois. She was an OB-GYN Physician in Michigan and Illinois. She was one of the first to be awarded a Certificate for Robotic Surgery. Survivors include her mother Darlene Matteucci of Kernersville; daughter Isabella Mauve Powell of Illinois; half-sister Madia Sargent of Illinois; brother Michael Alan Smith of Arizona. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church on Wednesday.
